I called the 5-12 21" tall and the 6-12 23" to make things simple, but the difference is slightly (0.2") more than that. I figured that was negligible. It works to be about a 10% difference in circumference.

5-12 Superstrong All Traction - m. e. MILLER tire

6-12 Carlisle Farm Specialist 6 Ply - m. e. MILLER tire

Awhile back we had a discussion about rolling circumference vs. mathematical circumference. Basically, what I learned was that there is a difference between what the math says the circumference should be, and what the tire manufacturer says it is when it rolls. I don't think it will absorb that difference, though.

Humm thats strange the 5-12 Superstrong says this- "This tire can NOT be used in place of 5.00-12 on a 4WD tractor.

This tire is 20.8" tall, the 5.00-12 is 22.8" tall." :confused2:

Tractor tire sizes are very confusing I found 4 ply and 6 ply even had different diameters and rollout radials have different rollouts etc even in the same manufacturer.

I found no info on the Bridgestone rice tire specs on mine we had no choice but to compare Euro and US spec tires and my own measurements pita no doubt UN-scientific at best.

The moral of the story imho is get all tires from the same manufacture at the least and get the same tread family at best. my .002

I finally received my 2 new front tyres today, what a disappointment that was... They're totally different to the picture on the website, the lugs are really small, narrow and shallow, and even though they say 5.00-12 on them they actually measure 4.00-12. Typical bait and switch :irked:

On a different tyre / wheel question- the rear wheels can be set farther out by moving the locking pin to the outer position, can the front wheels be turned around to make the tractor more stable or would that cause a problem somewhere else?

Story of my life. What disapointment and about a Inches Short  Haven't had to do but try pumping it up then measure it.:D

I have had to calibrate speedometers for actual tire circumference. I put a drop of water or White-out (but oil or whatever else would work, too) on the center of the tire, then roll until I have two marks (More is better; I'm usually able to get three on my motorcycles) and then just measure between the center of the marks. It is easy to get very precise, rolling dimensions this way. If one needed to do it in soft soil the tape idea would be better, and then measure between the centers of the tape mark in the imprinted soil.

It seems like this method would be better than putting them up on blocks, because won't the tractor's weight change the rolling circumference somewhat?

No, they're "Deli tyres", made in Indonesia.

I am just about to order 2 - 5x12 tires from Hoye. I hope that those that you received didn't come from them. Has anyone purchased the currently available 5x12 tires from Hoye? How do the compare in tread design to the original Bridgestone tires?

Thanks

I just ordered, recieved, and mounted 2 5-14 tires on my ym2002d. They are the Bridgestone Brand. They also sell a cheaper Chinese tire but I opted for the Bridgestone. Reading the notes on the 5-12 tires you need it would appear they are the cheaper Chinese tires but Hoye is saying that is all that is available in that size. Just looking at the picture of the tire the tread looks the same as the Bridgestone. If you contact Hoyes with your questions they will be able to answer any questions you have. For what it's worth, I placed this order one day, recieved the tires the next day. I am only 250 miles from them but was still impressed with Hoye and UPS.

Here's a comparison between the old and new tyres, the Bridgestones are 5.5" wide across the lugs, new ones 4". Unfortunately the old Bridgestones have splits between the lugs that go right through in some places, they're probably 30 years old though.
