I have to drill some holes and would like to use my JD790 with industrial tires and my typical TSC style post hole digger and auger. I'm not sure if the 3PT arms will lift enough for the tip of the auger to clear the ground during transport. Does anyone know or does anyone use a TSC type PHD with auger on a JD790? Does it clear the ground when you move from one hole location to another?

The 790 does not have any adjustment holes on the rear arms so I can raise it higher so it will either work or not work. Plus the industrial tires put it a little lower to the ground.

Thanks in advance.

Try using a piece of rope to tie the auger up during travel.

As long as it clears when you use it it's ok.

When I use my PHD on my B7610 the auger BARELY clears the ground.

But I figure as long as it clears by an inch when I use it that's ok. Works great on my M4700 :)

My 1070 predates the 790 and the TSC digger easily clears the deck in transport. The Top-link length and hole position also controls the lift height.

I have borrowed 790 that my neighbor has. My PHD was busted and somebody had hit my fence.
Had plenty of clearance on his and I don't recall any trouble even getting it off the trailer it was on with the PHD attached.
He uses it all the time and doesn't appear to have any trouble, he built about 2 miles of fence with it that I have seen.

Here is what mine looks like in the middle hole of the third arm, I gain a little when it's in the bottom hole. I think you'll be fine. This is a rhino brand. You have to be careful backing off the gooseneck trailer with it, it drags the dirt a little between the flip over ramps. LUTT

I have a Leinbach PHD on my 4115, and it clears the ground fine. Your 790 is even taller, so you will not have any problems.

I have a Leinbach PHD that I use on my 790, but it's been a year or more since I last actually had it attached to the tractor. As best as I can remember, it seems like mine cleared the ground about the same as LUTT's did, in his photo. I tried adjusting it every way possible to get the most clearance, and that was the best it would do.

Your welcome Six dogs, wish I was home to take measurements, I still have about ten days or so being out here at work. That is with a twelve inch auger on in that pic, I also have a nine, but never used it. LUTT

I don't know if a 790 has the three holes for the third arm, my 4200 does, I gain a little in the bottom hole, like you I've tried everything I could to gain some clearance. Really don't take much, just got to watch backing up! LUTT
