Will a splice on high tensile wire hold up?

I've got a tool I made from a book first published in 1897 for splicing wire. I have used it for several years on both high tensil and regular wire and have yet to have one fail (wire always breaks).

the figure 8 isn't hard to tie, but there is a trick to tying it..hard to describe in words, you start off real loose, then when you get the knot made, you pull hard and it slides down together and makes a neat looking tie after you clip off the ends. Call me if you can't figure out how to do it with some ease, takes practice, but you can get to where you can do it in 30 seconds or so...
