When we had livestock typically used heavy skidsteer that we had on the farm. Have on some occasions used a Kubota L4330 which I think is a little over the lift of the TC40. Bale weight of this size can easily vary 400 pounds due to moisture and density. It's pushing the limits of the loader and you are correct on being careful and safe.
Newer equipment has higher hay density. What are your weights running for this size bale?
For dry hay and a dense bale from a variable chamber baler I'd expect 1500-1800 lbs would not be a stretch. There would be variations of course based on the crop, baler settings and baler operator habits.
The center of the load would be some 3' in front of the pins where the loader lift rating is established. It would take more info than we have and better math skills than I possess to figure the 16LA's lift capacity 36" in front of the pins. It would be easy for me to guess the rating would be diminished by 25% at an absolute minimum.
