Of course it is. J goaded me into the post. Besides I was getting tired of scrolling through 5 pages of opinions, all leading to the same conclusion, which was that no one could agree on anything other than to disagree on everything!!

John:

If I had more money, I'd just buy a new tractor every time I had to change the oil. That would save me oil changes!! Kubota's are disposable aren't they?

RaT:

How often do you change the oil in your 350? Now the trick question, how often do you change the oil (fluid) in your e-4OD?

Yeah baby, thats the American way. Were all experts on oil,
I'm as easily swayed by a fancy oil label as the next guy, its also how I pick my wine, well, that and price. Out here in Califonia, (where Total Recall isn't just a movie), we have what we call 2 buck Chuck, (Charles Shaw) a nice Cabernet or Merlot for $1.99. It comes in a real wine bottle with a real cork. J:

My dad was a chemist. He always told me that oil didn't wear out or go bad, that it just had it's additive package used up in side the engine. He always used re-refined oil in his cars and never had any trouble with them.

The company that I work for sells their drain oil to another company that re-refines it and sells it again. I wonder if it's relabled as Rotella??

I don't know how old you are and I don't want to insult you by assuming that you'd remember this but:
In the early 60's, some engineer came up with a "toilet paper filter". It was a cartridge that took a roll of toilet paper and ran the crankcase oil through it. It actually filtered so well that it filtered the additive package out of the oil. It wasn't on the market long.

Hey, were double posting. I have no stinkin 350, a 444 yes. It gets changeed every 5000 miles, now the E4OD, it gets Amsoil Super Duper Deluxe tranny fluid every year, but hey, that may be exactly what my problem with the stinkin blinkin light on the end of the stinkin OD button is, that synthetic stuff, you think?

Living in the country, we used to pour our drain oil on the dirt road to keep the dust down. Now you'd go to jail for that.

Bird;
Too bad you don't have any of those old Mobil cans, you could sell them on e-bay. Heck, the folks on e-bay buy those little bags of hay from me!!!

Toilet paper filter, my neighbor had one. I've heard that the oil itself can actually have its lube qualities enhanced, but the viscosity indexers and all that other stuff degrade. Born in 1957 right here in California in the Big Tomato, Sacratomato.
