Off topic but good reading. I have a friend who is really up on new vehicles and things, works for an OEM, also runs a farm out on the opposite coast. He swears by the BG line, I think this is the one he uses in his older engines. BG 2241 if I remember correctly; use their search engine.

To add lubricity most add 5% bio diesel which can cause its own set of issues to TCW3 2 Stroke oil like what is used in water cooled marine engines. Do not use normal 2 stroke oil for air cooled stuff like weed eaters or leaf blowers.

To Ralph's point, "modern" state-of-the-art automotive diesels generally have a rotary fuel pump for the high pressure rail. No more "chooga-chooga" push-cam injection pump, whether rotary or in-line. The actual injection is done via piezo injectors ($$$$$$$$$) multiple times per compression stroke. Amazing stuff, this technology. All it takes is lotsa money.

So the lubricity needs for these engines has nearly vanished. Most of our tractor engines still use old pump-line-nozzle fuel systems (not high pressure common rail) that still needs lubricity boost. Oil companies don't care about our little market size.

On Wed it was ~5F here in North NJ for the 3rd straight day. I saw 3 "modern" TDi's on the side of the road with the hazards on the way to work.

Add them to the 2 powerstrokes and the duramax at work that gelled and I'm willing to bet those TDis gelled up also.

We don't usually get these temperatures in NJ. With how many miles those TDis can go on a tank, it isn't unreasonable to think their fuel could have been bought when the weather including the 10-day forecast was all 40F days.

Lessons are learned the hard way. If I see 20F or cooler in the forecast I treat my DMax with PS white bottle. If I see 0F or less, I go treat a 2nd dose.

Never gelled.

I am wondering I have a ford 3000 diesel 3 cylinder which I suspect fuel had water and froze up, I think I got most of the water out at the fuel filter and was able to get it started and left it idle seemed to run fine but when I turned it off, it will not start again anyone have any suggestions?Could the fuel filters be clogged . I inherited the tractor this fall when my dad passed away and up until now it has run with no major issues

Definitely sounds like a fuel issue. Change filters, pouring a little Power Service 911 in each one before installing. Dump the rest in the tank. If you can get it to run, the 911 will take care of everything.

Keeping your tank topped off with fuel will prevent the water.

Get a new fuel filter. Fill it with 1/2 Power Service 911 and 1/2 FRESH diesel. Throw the rest of the 911 in the fuel tank and top it off with FRESH diesel.

That should get it running. Run it long enough to make sure you are using fuel out of the tank and get the whole system moving with the fresh/treated fuel.

Top the tank off again with more FRESH fuel AND treatment when you shut it down.

If my tractor is stored inside a heated garage at 50-60 deg should I still cut the fuel ? Is it necessary to treat the fuel with a lubricant all year round? Should the tank be topped off every time I finish plowing?

Thanks for your opinion
