Will not enough clutch free play cause damage?

/ Will not enough clutch free play cause damage? #11
I bought a Ford 1920 about two months ago and when I first got it I couldn't engage the PTO without the gears grinding. I know that this has a dual clutch and the clutch had about 1" of free play from the top of the travel. I adjusted the free play to almost nothing so that now I can engage the PTO fine but I am afraid that I may be causing another problem because of too little travel. I could play with the travel and see if I can get a bit more travel and still have the PTO work but if I am not causing any damage the way it is now and both clutches engage well otherwise should I be concerned?

You need to have some freeplay so that the clutch throwout bearing is not constantly riding on the pressure plate fingers. Go back and adjsut it so you have some and see how the pto engages. As the clutch wears the free play decreases since the pressure plate finger move out toward the throwout bearing. You alsoneed to find the instructions on how to adjust the dual clutch system. I believe there's a little more to it then just adjusting the pedal free play.

That one sentence plus the pictures and videos finally helps me understand how the free play of the clutch pedal works.

Thanks everyone.

In the pdf I posted the only adjustment you need to make is #4. You can only acess 1 bolt at a time through the side cover. Adjust the first one and turn the engine 1/3 of a turn and adjust the next one the turn another 1/3 and adjust the last one.
