I have two small compressors, both hot dog tanks, and they work well for all of my issues. I usually just use the Kobalt because it is so quiet but when I need more air, I hook my Puma together with the Kobalt to give me around 12 CF per minute @ 90 PSI. I haven't used my 30 gallon Craftsman in more than a year. Small tanks work well and pump up fast rather than take 5 minutes to charge up a big tank, just use a small tank for airing up tires.
Size of tank matters little in air discharge rate, it is the CF per minute that the compressor is capable of producing that matters. Once you reach the maximum flow rate of your hose/Schrader valve, size of tank has no issue in the time it takes to air up a tire.
