Will This Compressor Inflate My Tractor Tires?

I've filled up the front tire of a combine with the same compressor, it took a while but it got it filled up.

What’s faster, inflating a tractor tire with a 3 gallon compressor or a 20 gallon compressor?

It depends. On initial pressure of compressor tanks, initial pressure of tractor tire, it’s desired pressure, and relative volumes of air required, but probably most importantly: the CFM of the compressor.
Tank size just might be inconsequential.
It depends.

All things being equal, other than the size of the air storage tank, the compressor with the higher CFM will inflate the tire the fastest.

The more cfm the better, the clipon or clamp on tire chucks make it much nicer, that said.
We have a 12 volt compressor it's a heavy duty with clamps to go on the battery and it will air up
20.8-38 enough to get it home when it has a slow leak but it sure seems to take forever.
About 10 minutes which when you are standing there waiting to get going seems to be an hour

You can inflate them with a hand pump. That size compressor is all I've ever used here. Why have a huge compressor at home? Previous pumps run up the pressure in the tank to 100#. Latest one goes to 125#. Takes about as long to run the pressure up as to go around boosting up the tires on the tractor and 3 vehicles plus dolly and wheelbarrow about once/6 months.

Just need either an air gauge that'll tolerate water for testing the rear tires or one with a long long between the tire and the gauge like I have now. Purge the short line when going to a non-watered tire.

When I had some of my trees logged off - the contractor had a big articulated skidder. Two of the tires got really low. He drove it back to my tool shed and we reinflated both with my five gallon Craftsman compressor. Took about ten minuets per tire but it did the job. It didn't overheat and shut down either.

Ralph - I gave up checking the exact air pressure in the big 'ol rear tires on my tractor. I used the "12 'O Clock High" procedure but still managed to blow Rim Guard thru two gages. Didn't do either one much good. I even would give them a couple shots of compress air thru the valve stem before checking the pressure. Still - no joy.

Now - once in the spring and again in the fall - I do this. Drive the tractor out on the beginning of the driveway. It's mostly all compacted sand. I will get a great impression of the bar pattern left in the sand. As long as I get a full width bar impression - the tires are inflated just right. I've checked - it's somewhere between 16 to 18 psi.

DON'T EVEN TRY IT!!

You can't put regular air in a tractor tire! You have to put "tractor air" in a tractor tire, AND your compressor HAS to be the same color as your tractor too!!

You have now been warned!
