I have a Warn 9.5ti multi mount for my Ram 2500 diesel. Having the option of putting it in the front or rear is a definite plus. It pulled me out of a canal with no problems. The right front end was under water. Just hooked it up to the rear and presto.

As for a brand, I swear by my warn. Its out pulled and lasted other brands in the same class. I've even hooked it to my wifes car when it got stuck in our driveway... pulled her right out. In my opinion, when it comes to a winch, get the best one you can get in the weight class your looking for, you will NEVER feel bad you did.

Yeah, I have a long list of testimony in regards to Warn winches as well. I tried to avoid brand bias in my earlier post.

I've got a 3K Warn on my Rhino. A month or so ago I spent thirty minutes pulling out my Son's buried Jeep. Finally had to use a snatch block. By the time I finished the winch would barely spool. It was ten months old. I boxed it up along with the sales receipt and sent it to a Warn rebuild shop. Ten days later it came back to me with a new motor. Cost me the postage to mail it. Doesn't get any better than that!!!

I have a Warn 9.5ti multi mount for my Ram 2500 diesel.

I have a Warn 9.5i hard mounted to the front of one of my Jeeps. It's the second fastest winch Warn makes. I believe it's 64 ft per minute with no load. I love it for what I do. When on cable, climbing a steep path and you catch traction and lurch forward the winch has the ability to speed up and keep slack out of the cable. Extremely important in my world. Outrunning the cable for several feet then losing traction and falling back down until the cable snaps tight is no fun!! :ashamed:

I've got Warn, Ramsey and Champion, as well as another no-name. They range from 8000lb to 1500lb. The 8000lb Ramsey is about 25yrs old and is the one I count on most. Sure, I've rebuilt it a few times (once following a front end write-off on my Grand Cherokee)...All of my winches are on receiver mounts and the 3-8000lbers all have 2" receivers welded UNDER the winch platforms, with those 600amp tow truck plugs.
My biggest problem is that as I age, the winches get heavier to move around from tractor to pick-up, to float trailer.
All my winches also have snatch blocks which are left on the cables as I'd rather pull at 1/2 the speed and 1/4 the amperage when the load is huge....
Try and get a winch WITHOUT a permanent magnet motor as they are just a little bit better. As the load increases, so does the magnetic field in the stator windings, giving more torque. With a permanent magnet motor your field is fixed.....

The rule of thumb on winches is double the weight of the vehicle , I have a warn 9500 on my cj yj bastard creation it works great !

A "rule" I have heard regarding winch size, is 1 1/2 times the vehicle GVW. Doesn't help much for tractors though....

I have a 9000pound superwinch on my dodge 3500. I had my truck stuck, with a dump trailer full of gravel. Was parked on hill in my barnyard and had a breakline blow. Mom couldnt stop the truck. She was burried where all my old hay and manure was. Told her to give it **** and she made it half the way out. The tractor wouldnt budge her from this pit.

I broke the winch out, "mounted on a 2inch front reciver" put a bunch of chain on a 12inch corner post in my barnyard. Ran the snatch block back out and porceded to see if it would pull it out. Now i was only able to get about 1/3 of the rock off. So i still had 2000plus pounds of rock, a dump trailer of 4500pounds and a 7000pound truck. Needless to said i had alot of weight. Considering i was burried up to the frame.

After about 3mins of a constant pull the truck was out and moving under its own power. I kept checking the motor and it never once got hot. I have used that winch, to pull my tractors out several times, along with our semi. You have to take in consideration those will pull "their raiting" pounds as dead weight. Rolling weight is alot less.

i have a warn 2500 on my 400 arctic cat and i have used it to pull cars around, log with it, stretch fence. Once you have one, you will be like how did i ever live with out it.

LIke the guy above who used his atv winch to get his gun safe to his basement. I used my truck winch to get a 1500 pound wood burner out of my basement. I have used it several times to move my cattle shoot around in the barn.

Snatch blocks are great things, allow you to pull at angles.

Ihfarm, congratulations on the retirement! Now the real work begins and you don't get to go to work and rest.

I would think hard about how your mount a winch to the tractor. If you mount to the loader bucket you will eventually end up putting some serious side loads on the loader arms. They are not designed for that and once twisted, well it wouldn't be a cheap fix.
