That could be true in certain circumstances. All you need to do in that case is turn the temperature nob up a notch or two and it will quit freezing up. Another thing to check is the temperature bulb that mounts in front of the evaporator. I have dislodged them while cleaning the filter and then it can't figure out how cold the evaporator is. Put it back where it goes and the problem is solved.
