How do you turn off those pictures that keep coming when you boot up that asks if you like or dislike them?? I can't find the switch!

Right click the screen and choose properties. You can select your own photo to come up every time.

Now my next issue is when typing an email, and I want to change the color in the paragraph (it was easy before) from black to say green, no matter what I try it stays black. I can paint it, choose a different color, select it, but it still stays black...grrrr
Whats the secret to this one?

The secret is to not do things like that with email. Black text on a white background is the easiest to read. Don't mess with it.

I would need to know what E-mail program you are using. Gmail, Outlook or what?

Thunderbird

It's when I want to highlight something in a sentence with a different color is what I'm referring to.

See if your Thunderbird is version 24.4 or higher. If not upgrade it to current. This was supposedly fixed in version 24.4. If it is this or higher then you can try this

Thunderbird Menu Bar > Tools > Options > Display. Then under Fonts and Colors, selected Colors.

SELECTED : "Use system colors" and "Allow content to choose its own colors, instead of my selections above".

Selected OK

I have 43.3.0 version and I've tried what you suggested and selected always and never but it always defaults back to B & W.

The latest version of Thunderbird is 45.3.0. This works for me: Write -> type text -> select text you want to change color on -> Format -> Text Color... -> click a color box -> OK

That's exactly what I've been doing, but it won't change color...stays black..

Hopefully your screen looks like mine in Mozilla Thunderbird when composing an email. Highlight the text you wish to change the color, and click on the black box, (not the white) to change the text color. The white box will change the background color, not the text color. Be sure the text you wish to change is highlighted using your mouse.

Edit - After looking at Mozilla Help (typing "text color"), if the above does not work, Try the following -

On the top menu options, select "Tools-Options" then select the Display icon. Select the Formatting Tab. Lower right select "Colors" Be sure the listing "Use system colors" is unchecked.
That is how mine is setup. Good luck.

That did it, thanks. You have to change to never on use system colors though.
I swear, I'd been through that same routine a dozen times with no luck. I must not have had them in the right sequence???

Thank you very much guys for all the help and suggestions.
