Thanks for all the input!
So far, I did not reformat the drive due to the Sony Application Recovery Disk not working correctly at bootup. I put in the XP Pro disk and it seemed to overwrite the old Millenium OK. There were a few old Dos type moments concerning the partitions that had me trying to unclog some really old braincells. Now trying to download all the updates with dial up. SSSSLLLLLOOOOOOOOOWWWW. SP2 is 108Megs at 45.2 Kbps (currently downloading).
I'll keep you posted. Our company's rent a geek said you can load an XP system type disk and register about 3 times before Microsoft will raise a flag.
The biggest problem I've had is forgetting to turn off the Messenger before logging on the net to update. I've had maybe 60 windows pop up overnite trying to get me to go to different bogus websites and that my registry was screwed up and my sytem would crash if I didn't visit those sites to fix it. I could see where a total novice would fall for something like that. This AM I turned off Messenger and they've stopped.
