Winter Field Mowing

Anyone mowing brush, large fields in winter with frozen ground?
We have about 150 acres to cut when the ground freezes. Too soft/delicate to cut unless frozen.
We have one property with a few large retention pond basins we can only cut when the ground freezes.
Some areas overrun with blackberry
These were once hay fields, now contract cut Conservancy Lands.

Will add more with todays mowing. Gonna be low 20’s so great time to mow normally damp ground.

I have done some wintertime waterway mowing, frozen ground can be your friend.

I don't go out when it's that cold. I've been trying to cut since before Christmas but too wet/soft. I just got a new clutch for the brush mower I haven't even installed yet. Had to take it apart to clean the paint out of it. It was double dipped and stuck together. It was supposed to be pre-adjusted for 45hp but I doubt 100hp could break it loose.

It says to adjust by spring height but the free height of the springs are all different. How would that work?

Doing rear implement work with the loader on would drive me absolutely nuts. If I'm not using the loader it's parked.

I love having a loader on in 8’ tall grass.
Works like a cow catcher for a locomotive sometimes.
Also allows me to break off those pesky, cab destroying limbs.

I just drop the bucket when not needed. No need to remove the loader.

LOL, I can take my loader off/on faster than I can remove/install the bucket or just as fast. Both have single point connectors and my loader is as easy as can be to connect and disconnect. With the loader on and a bush hog or finishing mower attached my tractor is so long and awkward that manuvering around is difficult. Bottom line is I just don't want it up there.

I've never removed the loader on my tractors unless a repair required it.
I do drop the bucket often to reduce the weight hanging off the front.

Ever since I ordered my cabbed tractor, I keep thinking of how productive I could be on those days that are too cold to do anything outside. I've tried bundling up, but it's just a matter of time until the cold works its way in, and then it becomes a test of how long I can last. Usually not very long!!!
