I use #1 diesel in the winter for anti-gel purposes (good to -40F) and a good lubricating additive (Opti-Lube XPD). With this combination you won't have any trouble. I also use a block heater, even at 32F for at least 1/2 hour. The tractor hardly bangs at all on start up. The colder it gets, the longer I use the block heater if I have the time. At -20F, the coldest that I ever used the tractor, I had it plugged in for 1 1/2 hours and the tractor started with very little cold start banging.
