Winter Is Coming,,, Do I Need A Clutch Block?

Off task for just a minute but that Case-IH 584 in 4WD is a pretty hard to find tractor. I almost bought one at an auction this year but missed out. I'm sure you know it's made in England and was pretty pricey when new.

My Mitsubishi MT-372 had the clutch stick setting in a similar shed,,,

I think the clutch will stick with very little moisture present,,,
Looks like a heated garage. Just be sure to park it warm.

The shed is anything but heated,,,
a GIANT woodstove will raise the temp about 20 degrees F,,, when the stove is constantly fed.
All the shed does is keep the rain off.

It is 57' X 45',,, all steel, including the 18' wide roll up door.

Block the clutch.

Over many years of a clutch tractor, never had one stick together.
I'd not worry about it, unless outside storage and a longer time period than a year.

I would say that, mostly. ... But I have had several clutch sticks. All except one freed pretty easy. Strange enough for me to see it as unpredictable on an outdoor ambient stored tractor.

The manual does recommend "tieing or blocking the pedal in disengaged position" when being stored for extended periods. Deere does not provide a way to do this. Just tie it down with a length of wire or cut a block of wood to hold pedal down. This helps prevent the clutch disk from sticking to the flywheel or pressure plate.

It's a calculated risk. If it ever sticks, You'll wish to heck you blocked the pedal because there is no usually solution other than splitting the tractor. There have been lots of remorseful threads here on that topic over the years. Block it and it takes the pressure from the metallic pressure plate squeezing the metallic disc to the metallic flywheel. I keep the supplied little block of wood in the tool box and use in the winter. No big deal.
