I sit here and it is 8 degrees outside. That's right 8. 3 Days ago it was in the 60's. Last night while flying GPS approaches it was 45 degrees at altitude. The darwininan theory is at work as the idiots who drive too fast for conditions along with their poor unsuspecting victims are culled. The roads are a mess (black ice, snow packed). Couple of inches of snow on the ground. Zeus sits outside. I cringe at the thought of starting the engine even with a block heater installed. It gets dark at 1700 now and Xmas is less than 2 months away. Yep, winter must be here. It's is going to be a long one this year.....

I to see the signs for a long winter over here as well, for second half of the leaves have fallen upon the snowy ground, and the day time temps no longer reach 50F+ /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

The wildlife just like a vacuum..sucking up acorns & apples etc..the winds seem to chill the bones even quicker.plus I haven't seen or heard large flock of geese for couple of weeks now..headed south early..maybe time has caught up /w me and cabin fever won't. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Good morning Thomas:

Those signs of winter are interesting but I'd check the coffee cuboard to see how much Maxwell house was there and make a prediction on that.

My sure sign that winter is here: My wife starts to sleep in a long flannel granny type night gown. And she also hogs the covers. I call it the return of the flannel breasted cover snatcher.

Fella's

never seen snow, hardly ever seen rain, Our average rain fall is about 250mm or 10 inchs, so far this year we have had 90mm or 3.5 inchs and have just come out of winter. As our rain fall is mainly in winter, we will be way below our average this year. Where i am it gets to about -3 or -4 in winter because it is so dry we experience many frosts. in summer it is regularly around 38c or 100 farr however it does get to 43c or 44 c often, thats about 110farr. so a little different to what most of you experience.

Egon,

I use an even simpler method to predict the winter. I just watch the neighbor's firewood pile. The bigger the pile, the worse the winter /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
