I got 26-28" at my camp. I had to rig my Kubota into winter mode (6' blower) to chew out my 1000' of drive. Shockingly, I didn't lose power there. Here at home, however, I'm still running my generator.

Well, just got the electric power back after 3 days!!
Not too bad....sorta like camping out...inside. Some good lanterns and a propane stove...we hacked it.
The biggest hassle was no water. We had bottled water, but that doesn't do much for flushing a commode...urination...no prob, I go outside. Obviously, my wifey couldn't (wouldn't do that) and solid elimination would have been a problem for either of us.
At least is was fairly warm...if this had happened in January, this inconvenience may have been much more serious.

No generator Roy ?

This might be a wake up call, for the reason you mentioned, power out in mid winter.

I was thinking about starting a thread "who doesn't have a generator" Cause even though We did not lose power on my end of the street, a large portion (600,000) of this state is still in the dark/cold after 5 days.
Definitely not enough generators to go around, when everyone needs one.

I actually looked at a 25kW Winco generator on CL a few weeks back...figured "Nah....haven't lost power in 10 years"....actually, other then a few outages lasting up to 6 hours, we haven't had a major outage since moving to PA in 1987.
This storm put us out all day Saturday...power was restored Sunday, then went out Sunday night and came back on Wednesday evening about 1900.
However!! As I type this, I've got another web page open and looking at generators (PTO driven, most likely).

Yeah probably at least 12-15 kw would be good. I remember you talking about that 25kw. I've got a 10 kw pto but wish I went a little bigger.

In my entire life I can't remember losing power more than a few hours. Still I'm preparing for the worst, It's happening all around me, the street behind me is still out, I can hear a few generators running. 2 people have died in nearby towns, both from co poisoning trying to stay warm.

With this storm the power went on and off a few times Saturday night, really just blinked off and on. Then it went dark, I thought this is it, time to go into crisis mode, but the power was back on before I could get off my reclining chair.

I was actually half hoping to lose power just so my kids could learn to appreciate it, maybe learn to turn the lights off when they leave a room, and I could get some experience managing my home made power supply.

My Ol' Lady sure as **** didn't appreciate it...she was definitely getting cabin fever!
Other then the internet off, I was OK for the most part.

Northern Tool has a nice 13kW PTO unit for just under $1500. Harbor Freight has a 15kW unit for the same price. Both backordered, according to the websites (no surprise there, eh?).

During the Spring, when we had all those tornado warnings, I bought two lanterns and I can recommend both:

and
http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-SE3DL...4XIS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1320280802&sr=8-2

These came in real handy during the outage

This company use to advertise here on TBN, I've got their 10 kw

IMD - PTO Generators

No prices on their site, you have to find dealer selling them. sure you could google up a price.

I like that 16kW unit!! My 4400's PTO HP is right at 30, so I'd probably get 14.5kW to 15kW.

You wrote you wish you'd had a bit more then the 10kW...why? Do you have the AVR unit?

Here's some prices, BTW:
IMD PTO Generators Single Phase & Three Phase, Tractor Driven Generators

I should of gotten the larger unit because first, I could power more than 10 kw with my 4310, also I have electric stove and electric dryer. even though as long as I don't try to run both at the same time I could use one or the other, But even running one of those big power consumers, I would have to closely watch all the other loads. 5 people in the house, couple of small electric heaters etc. Also like was mentioned in another pto generator thread the flywheel effect of the larger than needed generator plus the thermo buffer as well. Also probably would be easier to sell a 15-16 kw pto genny than the 10, if you ever needed /wanted to sell it.

I got the capacitor regulated, thought it would be simpler, less to go wrong. But I don't have enough experience to recommend one or the other. I'm pretty sure they sell more of the AVR units, it's supposed to be an advancement over the old style capacitors.

Look into their 3pt carrier, a great option. I modded it to fit imatch QH

Thank you!!
That 16kW unit sells for just over $1600. I assume the 3PH carrier is extra. Was the frame pretty close to the QH (mine is a Deere QH too, BTW)? Or, did it require extensive modifications?

Sorry to be picking your brains so much!!
