In "Smoky and the Bandit" with Burt Reynolds there is a chase scene where the Bandit is crossing from the swamps of Louisiana into the deserts of Texas. Actully, the first thing you see crossing into Texas is the Sabine River and a huge river bottom of cypress trees. Then you see trees and rice/soybean fields for almost a hundred miles until you get to Houston. After that you see rolling landscape with mixed pastureland and woodlands. No deserts for hundreds of miles! Like Bird said, a lot of what you see has probably been filmed in other states.

Smithville Texas - Bastrop County - just east of Austin - had a sign up one day just 1.5 miles from the house - "Welcome to Texas" - regulation road sign - seems they were filming "Hope Floats" there that day. Kinda funny when seeing the movie and those that know go "HUH??"
Seems there was a lady in a theatre watching "Steel Magnolias" who knew the area - when the scene showed the ambulance taking off for the hospital she yelled "other way!"
guess that scene that day got an unexpected laugh.

Chris, we spent the month of January, 1990, in Tucson and visited "Old Tucson" where so many movies and TV episodes were shot. We sure have watched a lot of movies in which we recognized the buildings where they were./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
