Wireing Question

Nothing wrong with using a 20 amp breaker if the wire is 12 gauge. Then you could get more outlets and or lights per circuit. Just a little harder to make the splices in the outlet or light box.

Do you know what the limit is for outlets on a 20 amp circuit? I'm thinking I will need about 5 per room total of 10 that will put them about every 8 ft mark?

I don't believe the code has a set number, really just depends on what will be plugged into them. You wouldn't want ten microwaves on your circuit but for bedrooms, ten outlets will be fine. Outlet spacing is any wall bigger then 2 feet and no more then 12 feet in between them. Actually says something about that a lamp with a six foot cord placed anywhere along the wall shall be able to be plugged in to an outlet. A lot of the code book is about how we interpret it and then how an inspector does. Often time these interpretation are different.

Keep in mind, like pat32rf said, a lot of devices like outlets and switches are rated 15 amp. If you are using #12 and 20 amp breakers be sure to use 20 amp rated outlets and switches. They are more money but you really have to do it and the quality will be better, maybe even made in USA.

Most wiring devices, (outlets, switches)and #14 wire is only rated for 15 amps so you are limited to 15 amp breakers

As long as you use 12 gauge wire, you will be ok with a 20 amp breaker. You can use 15
Amp outlets on this. The load on one outlet can not exceed 15 amp.
