Thanks for the info guys.

I just got off the phone with our cellular provider ( alltel ), and they told me abotu the 2 types of service... cellphone with data kit.. and aircard... They said based on our area.. the cell phone & data kit was the best deal...

Stuff is ordered.. and on its way...

As far as I know, I need to install the software included with the kit, hook up the cable to the phone.. and that should be about it. The software with the data kit has the internet access software on it. Also, we enabled the 'mobileweb' service on his cellphone line, as well as increased his minutes a bit. All in all was much less 'painfull' than I thought it would be. I'm glad i researched it here and was armed with a few terms so when the rep started asking questions i at least had some idea what they were talking about /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I have any questions about the setup, I'll give you guys a call.

thanks

Understood. Wireless internet is a different protocol(s) than your average cell phone.

It all depends on your service provider.

Some people can get text messages through the system(s) quicker than voice calls.

Soundguy,

Not sure how tight the budget is but we have hundreds in our company that use this and with the boss thats not where you "want the best deal" or what is "cheapest" . Now if Alltel has the best coverage everywhere he may go thats fine. But for Wireless data you should search for the carrier with the largest wireless "data" infrastructure build out and I suspect in most areas of the country that would be Sprint/Nextel and Verizon.

Nextel were in the process of rolling out their wireless data product before the merger and it was much faster than my DSL at home and probably competed with Cable speeds. I infact could leave the office with my laptop drive the 35 minutes with a VoIP call going through my laptop.
