Back when,, Cub Cadet used to separate the diesel engine from the hydro to ease starting,,
I believe it was the same as a gear drive clutch,, but, used on the hydro,,
it was an option,,IIRC,,,

One advantage of the PT hydraulic tanks is that since they are structural members, the metal is relatively thick, which helps distribute the heat from a pad heater. If I were going to use a blanket, I would toss it over everything from the dashboard back. While it might be a little slower to heat everything, you would end up with a warm steering wheel and seat to start the winter chores. :):dance1:

As MR points out, the charge pump does run at full capacity all the time. The flow is needed to make up losses in the drive circuit, and to cool/lubricate the variable displacement pump. Pumping cold oil runs the risks of cavitation in the charge pump, causing premature wear, and also runs the risk of collapsing the prefilter. We all want to take it easy until the oil is warm. I can hear my pumps start to cavitate, if I crank up the throttle when the engine is cold (<40F) If you look up viscosity values, there is very little difference between 0W/5W/10W oils at low temperature; it is all pretty thick.

All the best,

Peter

Just saying I love the pnw. It got to 37 last night. Pt started right up

It was 15F here over the weekend. Clear and sunny days. Cold, but clear. I love this kind of weather. Ice is starting to form on the lakes. Maybe I'll get to go ice fishing before February!

To answer the question on why there's no clutch.

My guess: Chris and Terry have garages w/heat.

How about just slapping a magnetic block heater on the hydraulic tank a few hours before starting?

Just wondering what motor oil are you running.....I realize your concern with the hydro pumps:)
