Usually, a clogged filter element is much much much much weaker than the steel used in the housing. If anything should blow out, the element or the by pass is where that happens. I am again guessing, but it sounds like a faulty seam, crimp or weld failed. Never heard of an oil pump going up to 1000 psi and blowing out a non-defective filter case. Could happen, but never heard of it.
Yea, kinda what I was digging for. Why didn't the bypass relieve the pressure, if in fact, that was the true cause of the failure.

AND it coulda been a tc40/45, not necessarily a K :(

Not enough details sometimes for the nosiness some of us possess :p

Its illegal to void a warrenty simply because an aftermarket filter was used. However in this case, the filter failed. Obviously they are not going to pay for the failure of a product thats not theirs.

Make sense, however, the filter manufacturer would then say... what went wrong with the engine that caused such high pressure to cause the filter to rupture, etc. It becomes a finger pointing game at that point.

Glad it is not a too common of an occurrence either with tractors or automobiles.

The bypass built into the filter will only relieve internal pressure. If the system builds up excessive pressure, the oil filter 'can' will see that same pressure.

I had problems with 2 different Wix air filters years ago..and would let an item sit before Id install another Wix filter of any sort. That said..some like Wix filters...some done. I am one that doesnt.

Kubota filters arent $$$ to worry about using another brand...regardless of the other brands costs ( more $$ or less $$)

Many very good points here. My opinion is that as long as the equipment is in warranty, I'll stick with the oem filters. Once out of warranty, then I'll consider using other quality filters. Someone mentioned they had a bad experience with a Wix filter. I'm sure that's possible. Keep in mind that no oem builds their own filters, and whoever builds the filters for them can errantly ship out a bad filter. They buy them from someone else, but "IF" there's a problem during the warranty period, I'd rather not complicate the issue with a non-oem filter. As long as there's a Nissan filter on my wife's Infinity, then Infinity will not blame the filter for an oil related problem. Same with Kubota, deere, etc....

This is one of those issues that is "not a problem until it's a problem, and once it's a problem, it's a big problem." I don't want to risk losing an expensive warranty issue because of a $8.00 oil filter.

FWIW, One filter I'll never use is a Fram. Ever cut one of those things open and examine the internal quality? sheeesh

My 2 pennies

I had a close friend that had a Toyota when the oil filter burst. He caught it before any damage occurred. He thought it was a bad filter and bought another and it burst upon start up. It DID turn out to be the relief valve. This is first hand knowledge, not anecdotal.

Bring a thread back from the dead?

Bring a thread back from the dead?

Why not?
I have always used OEM filters for the hydro, and aftermarket oil and fuel filters. That said, the only filter failure I have had over the years was a Kubota OEM hydro filter. -10 deg F cold start and the filter blew the seal resulting in several gallons of oil loss. The dealer came out and took care of everything without issue, but further investigation on my part discovered that particular filter (multiple tractor applications) was recalled via TSB for areas in the United States one state north of where I live. I did have a problem getting them to replace the (newly installed) filter with the updated one.
