After some thinking, ordered the Iron and Oak 30 ton unit from Ace HW. It should be delivered to the store in about a week; drop shipped from the manufacturer. Went to Rural King and picked up 3X 5-gal pails of CAM2 AW32 hydraulic fluid. The splitter takes ~10.5 gallons.
Did you look at the northstar from northern tool? I have the 27 ton that i purchased 10 years ago. Its been a great splitter. If your willing to spend a couple more grand. They offer once with log lifts. The reason why northstar splitters are a bit cheaper is b/c you have to put it together. I thought it was easy enough bc the instructions were great.

Not looked much, but the Iron and Oak has to be put together as well. Its done for now. Ace did give me an attractive discount and I went for it. They will load the crate on my trailer when I go to get it.

We should get a conversation going on the ins and outs of "push past the splitting wedge" vs "Split into a fixed plate".

I use the four way on everything that is not "knotty", and the run off table is always on....
I push EVERYTHING through the 4-way on my Timber Wolf, stringy crotches and all,

I leave it on 100% of the time and I think TW has the best designed, strongest 4-way going.

As for the wedge on the ram, getting rid of the splitters I had designed that way was one of my best ideas I've had. Having the wedge on the end of the beam makes splitting faster and less work for the operator, less handling of the wood is what it's all about!

Here I'm letting the splitter push the splits right into my "self unloading" trailer,

Even if we just push them into a pile like this,

it's less work!

Sometimes I push the splits into half cord boxes that I build,

It's just plain less work to have the wedge on the beam.

I like the setup. Ill be splitting into the bucket of my tractor. Then stacking it. Right now my process is a bit time consuming as i stack all my wood under the lean-to attached to my pole barn. Then I put wood in my bucket and put it in the garage where i have cheap log racks. So Im stacking it there as well. I was going to use the shell of the tote idea but i dont want critters living in them when I take them to my garage.

So now im thinking about making more log racks and then just using that to initially stack in. Store under the lean-to. Then just move it to garage when ready.
