I'm on a trial dose of blood pressure medication. My theory is that the dose is too high causing me to get dizzy when I first stand up. The ribs might have raised my bp enough that my bain now gets enough blood to keep me from being dizzy.

The medical phrase is, I think, "orthostatic hypotension". There are a number of causes, and treatments, such as adjusting your blood pressure dosage. If it were me, I would let my doctor know. But I'm not an MD, and don't play one on TV...

In the interim, I would be careful standing up and changing positions from the horizontal to vertical. If I felt myself getting faint, I would try to get myself on the floor in a controlled way before falling, but that's just me.

All the best,

Peter

After surgery last month, they told me not to look at the floor as I stood up. Look down, place your feet, then look forward as you rise. Seems to work pretty well. I still do it.

But it's imperative to get it checked by a Dr. (y)

Thanks Peter.
I have an appointment with.the doctor in a few days and am keeping a bp chart if I remembered the date I had the ribs correctly, th bp spiked on the day I had ate them. I was craving ribs and it might have been because my body knew they'd help.

So far the.room hasn't been spinning and I haven't needed any more ribs.

Dizzy when immediately standing up from bed or chair is one sign of low blood pressure. Poor balance while walking is another.
My Dr. just weaned me off one BP med, my heart rate was in the 40's to low 50's, once it was 38 and I could barely walk/stand without falling sideways.
I wore a bluetooth (wireless &waterproof) heart monitor for a month, made by Boston Scientific, the results, to put it in the Dr.s language "it isn't pretty, It's a wonder you're alive".
It didn't hinder me from anything i wanted to do. Medicare paid for all but $250 of the rental cost.
Buy yourself a BP wrist cuff from WM or a drug store, take a reading daily. It will store each result, then you can show it to your heart Dr. to remove any doubts they have.

My theory is that a lot of us who are on blood pressure meds really don't need them. "White coat syndrome", plus other factors, make blood pressure rise. Myself, I live here out here in a rural area where it is quiet and peaceful and my body gets used to it. When I have to drive to the city to see my doctor I can feel my blood pressure rising as soon as I get to city limits - the traffic and general chaos that I'm not at all used to. By the time I get to my doctor's office I'm all tensed up...and that's when they take my blood pressure. I think a lot of people are that way - going to a doctor is always stressful. Plus, I'm old. I can remember from my EMT training 40 years ago that blood pressure rises as a person gets older. So why are they trying to keep my blood pressure at 120/60, a good reading for someone 20 years old, when I'm 80 years old?

Sodium spikes my bp, I'm betting your spike was due to the sodium content in the sauce, not the ribs/red meat.

Speaking of sodium/salt; I'm on a no-salt diet, talk about difficult to follow. Anyway, I was told about a no-salt seasoning that's really good IMO. Improves taste of all meats and poultry.
It's named NO SXIT SEASONING, by Big Cock ranch LLC https://www.amazon.com/****-Seasoning-Big-Cock-Ranch/dp/B078XMFM1H

Most commonly accepted "medical" advice given out the last couple of decades in regard to salt, sunlight, cholesterol, and saturated fat, for the majority of folks, has been flat out wrong. Keep eating the ribs.
I mean I tend to agree that this idea of prescribe some med to "fix" the issue rather than figuring out a lifestyle change that might solve the problem is deeply flawed. I also agree that it was probably not the ribs in this case that caused his issue. But is that comment above your feelings or do you have information to back it up? I am not arguing with you, but I highly doubt "most commonly accepted medical advice... is flat out wrong" But I am sure there are some recommendations that are flawed for sure.

At 50 I have never taken any prescribed meds, and my goal is to stay off of them as long as I can by figuring out the root cause of the issue and making a lifestyle change that solves the issue rather than taking a med to hide the issue. Maybe that is a good idea for a thread.

There is ample information to show what he saying is right. The medical advice he is talking about has been multiple huge scams to make the people eat byproducts(I.E. Seed oils) and rely on doctors because there sick.

Saturated fat is great for you, poly unsaturated fat is not.

Statins are not good for anybody

Circumcision is a barbaric cruel unnecessary crime against babies!

Raw meat is safe and very good for you.

Eggs are good for you, especially raw.

Milk, yeah - RAW

Beef is great.

The list goes on and on and there is plenty of info to back it up if your curious at all.

Yeah? Really? I mean it is not a stretch to believe that the industrial medical complex in the USA wants us to stay sick, that is how they get paid. I guess part of me doesn't;'t want to believe it.

Do you happen to have 1 or 2 sources of information to backup your false medical advice claims? Where do I get started? Do I even want to get started?

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure in my mid 20's. Paid no heed to it, wasn't overweight, ate what I wanted, life was full bore. Had a heart murmur but was born with it, no big deal. Never went to a dr, unless it was for stitches, even that was rare.

Fast forward about 20 yrs, ended up with a heart attack at 41 my heart had gotten enlarged from not treating my BP. 5 Stents and later a bypass and valve replacement I pay attention to it.

They put me on a Lopressor type drug that lowers my heart rate down to about low 50. Some days it feels like it gets lower than that.

I'm in my 60's now and learned to deal with it and work around the dizziness. Valve sounds like a timex watch. ⌚. when the wife walks by sounds like a two stroke outboard motor... 😁

It's not uncommon for meds to make you dizzy or feel blech. Often they will pass after your body gets used to them.

That's a great question...

Wait another 20 years and then tell us how it goes. Your body will change A LOT once you are over 65. Me, I was over 70 when a statin and BP medication were first prescribed. Very low dose on both...but as you age things change. Did a lot of exploring on my dirt bike until a couple years ago, now my body tells me I'd better give that up!
