Got it opened up yesterday, what should I be looking for? Nothing obvious thus far.... Will a blown seal/o-ring look damaged, etc???

Thanks

Does your parts manual show just one relief valve? The older YM models have two. If so, have you examined it closely?

Could you define the term "opened up" a little better?

Opened up as in split tractor in half! Found problem I think, looks like some sort of weird gear/bearing or something in pump fell apart. Pictures show what I found when I tore down.

I had a feeling thats what you would find. I would replace it before even trying to repair it. It's not a common problem so a used parts dealer should have one.

Carey hit it on the head. First time I personally have heard of this. Glad you found the problem, I suspect a new pump is going to be expensive if available.

Yep, Carey was right on target! Price on pump at Hoyles is around $550 or so...pretty steep. Tried to find individual parts and couldn't so looks like we will have to get pump. I guess it's a new pump, didn't say. I will call them today and get it ordered.....It would be nice if they made the pump accessible from the outside without breaking tractor down..... While I have tractor opened up, is there something I need to check now? don't want to open it up again for a long, long time!!!

Thanks

Called Hoyes to check on parts for pump. They said they only would be able to get a used one if they can find one. I was under impression that parts could be found pretty easily from a place like Hoyes but was wrong....May get it fixed this time and then sell it. Get a Ford or John Deere so parts won't be such a problem.....

For what it's worth, not very many people have failures like this at all (I haven't read of any here) and your FX32 is rare. The John Deere compacts of similar vintage were made by Yanmar anyway, and my Ford 1700 from the same time is about impossible to find parts for, aside from basic maintenance items. I have read that Kubota is cutting back on its support of older models, too.

The imported compact tractors were not sold in the same overwhelming volume of decades-long production cycles as some of the regular farming tractors from earlier years, and the parts situation reflects that.

Frustrating as it is, the parts are at least possible to get, and there are more vendors who sell Yanmar parts than the others. Try LMTC and Sheaffer tractor while Hoye looks. They may be able to steer you in the right direction, and make your machine good for another 30 years. Some of the Yanmar components, especially for the most popular variants, are being produced by aftermarket manufacturers, so all is not lost. While I doubt the Powershift pump for an FX32 is in that category, this isn't going to be a regularly replaced item, either.

Here's the last-chance Yanmar guy. He posts here occasionally. Leonard Sheaffer.
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/members/lens12.html

He has parts books for the esoteric models and more important, he has contacts in Japan to locate and send parts that never were shelved in the US due to low demand. I wouldn't be surprised if all his research on a project like this adds to the cost, so be prepared.

I've read that Southern Global can source odd stuff. And Western Kentucky Tractor (or something like that) might have a salvage one.

Looks like we are going to trade the Yanmar in. Can't find parts we need and don't want to keep having to search high and low for parts anytime it breaks. May look at a LG new tractor so if any of you guys know pros/cons on this tractor, please advise! Thanks for all of the help, it's tractor season and we need something!
