+1 on the loop thing. Same thing happened to me. Had me puzzled for awhile. There is some debate whether the loop is necessary but for $10, it seems like pretty cheap insurance against accidentally pushing your remote lever into detent and whatever strain that might put on the hydraulics.

Definitely add the loop when not in use. Could save you hundreds of dollars.

There is no debate, deadheading the pump will cause over heating and premature failure. The debate is whether to take out the detents or add a loop in order to avoid deadheading the pump. Since I use a log splitter and backhoe, I like the detents and the loop is an easier solution for me.

ok, i thought that was all that was wrong. The best way to prevent this again is to make a small loop of hose and connect to the unused rear ports....like this <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=361084"/>and just so you know. letting it deadhead (locking it without having anything connected) can damage the hydraulic pump


I'm a little unclear on the "loop". It looks likes there is just an 8 inch piece of hose attached to a coupler. Is there a literal "loop"? Is there any potential drawback to this?

its just a loop of hose with male and female couplers on end. you plug them in the rear ports to complete the circuit. this prevents accidental deadheading of the system (running rear hydraulics without any implement attached).

there is NO detrimental issues with using this loop. its a safety thing

and yes, it is a literal loop.....plugs into both ports

Something else is wrong, the right hand(tall) lever remote does not have detent balls in it, so it should never get "stuck" in either direction unless something is pushing against it(like your leg, or a towel, or a chain, small dog, etc). Only my added rear remote control(shorter handle like the one in gr's pic had detent balls in is which I neutered a long time ago).

Ah-ha, I posted the above before looking at No1's pic. I see a rag, a chain and a stick......one of those is the culprit I bet:laughing:

I bought a 1/2" 2 wire hyd 12" hose for $11.99 at our family farm store to fit the threads on a couple of standard male pioneer couplers that were in the tool box. Pretty simple.
