Wood boiler backup

   / Wood boiler backup #11
Yes, that is one way to do that. My boiler holds 340 gallons. That is cost prohibitive to me to use anti-freeze. There is a specific requirement on what propylene glycol can be used in a central boiler model for corrosion etc. The cost is about $2k for a 55 gallon drum. At a 50/50 mix which would be required for my area, that is $6k…
When mine was filled about 4 years ago, CB dealer charged, I think, $11.00 a gallon for the antifreeze at 50/50 mix. Boiler hold about 200 gallons plus the baseboards in house and garage infloor tubing. Last boiler before this was 500 gallons, different house. But gas boiler backup system was setup better to take over if water temperature got to cold. Newer boilers don't like to play nice with outdoor boilers because of the electronics. Jon.
