My friend and I (also an old person) once installed a converted propane bottle wood burner in a mates garage.
The three inch pipe was passed through the wall at a 45 degree angle and cemented into place.
We then lit the fire and checked for leaks in the pipe etc and tidied up the brickwork as it had pushed the cement ouit of placeand left the fire to go out.
Next day we found that the pipe had cooled down, contracted and lifted the fire four inches off the floor because the pipe was secured in the wall.
That pipe expanded when the fire was lit and we cemented it in hot, if we had cemeted it in cold what would have happened when the metal expanded??
