Wood chippers

I go back and forth on the 3 pt hitch/PTO driven wood chippers, VS the pull behind wood chippers ... I have a sub contract tractor, so my best power option for the 3-5 inch chipper capacity is the pull behind.

I could probably get by with the smaller PTO options, but I think the capacity would be too limited for my satisfaction.

So far i'm giving a serious look at a Wallenstein model chipper.

Woodmaxx and Woodland Mills had some others that caught my attention earlier.

I went with the WM8H from Woodmaxx. Just took delivery and hope to have it up and running next week. I'll let you know how it performs.
Woodland Mills has a nice 6" but it wasn't alot more money for the WM8H and I'd rather have the larger opening even if I don't plan on going beyond 5 or 6 inches. Plus at 200 lbs, this one has the heaviest flywheel which adds performance (I'm told). More to come.

You won’t be sorry. We’ve had ours for over a year now and it eats up everything, even with my little Kubota 2920 (21hp at the PTO).

I went with the WM8H. My tractors on a smaller end, B2650 with 19.5 HP at PTO. I wanted the larger 8-in opening for the sake of easier feeding of stuff that is not straight or has small branches on it, and with the hydraulic feed I can slow the feed rate and put in the larger stuff. The hydraulic feed also lets me keep gathering as it's chipping since I don't have to watch the feeding.

My decision process between this and the WC86 simplified during the Thanksgiving Black Friday sale. They offer free shipping for a couple of days in there, which is a $350 discount. If you're looking at these in the fall it might be worth waiting and timing it out with that sale.

what did you choose in the end? I m looking for a small pto wood chipper, I started another post here.

Had a MacKissic TPH-122 for 16 years. Great little chipper/shredder, but my leaf source dried up, and I needed something with a more horizontal input chute. Got a WM WC46 now.

The Mac is so easy to work on. TONS better than a Troybilt Tomahawk that I had for 8 years but basically the same equipment, just not TPH.
