Does anyone have experience with these. I am considering this system in my new house, almost under construction. I am looking at a couple different ones. First is a Harman. I would prefer hot water type, but all they make is hot air. Another company here, Wood boiler heating systems intelligently engineered by TARM USA has a neat unit that uses a large, insulated storage tank for the hot water. They claim that the wood fire could be out for almost a week and you would still have hot water for heat and home use. Both have separate thermostats for wood/coal or oil, so if the fire goes out, the oil would automatically kick on. Any thoughts? I would really like this to heat the new garage as well. Well, more than really like to, I'm gonna make it happen. Eddie, I especially wait on your response. I hope you know something about these.

I was very interested until I learned it is not approved in WA...

The company said it's are working on 50 State approval.

I like to hear from people that have both good and (bad?) experiences.

I have had good luck with Central Boiler model CL 40. It's about 10 years old and I can get about a 4-5 day burn time with it. 2000sq ft house tied into radiant baseboard heat (would go with radiant floor next time) and hot water hookup. And will be big enough to heat my future shop. I get the LP tank filled about every 3 years for back up boiler.

Take a look at that TARM website. I looked at them a while ago. They have a wood boiler that you can loop into your system to have the wood as a secondary heat source.

That's the website I have above. I don't want an add on system I'm building a new house, so I prefer one unit. I really like the features of the Tarm system. The holding tank will hold hot water for a few days if the fire goes out, or will just run on the oil/propane.

Hookblock, thanks for the link to Central Boiler. I was googling last night for an hour and there just isn't too much info out there.

Wayne these boilers are under pressure, most wood boilers are atmospheric pressure. Open systems need water level control, PH, and treatment. Most wood and some other fuel boilers are inefficient when using gas or oil. Lots of unit out there, take your time looking! That hot water claim, take that with a grain of salt, and how often you feed them LOL.

I like the looks of a lot of this type of boiler. Unfortunately, I require a combo unit. I do not want to purchase 2 separate heating systems. I need to have wood and or coal, and propane or oil for the back-up. I know that when combined, the efficiencies go down, but if you amortize out the cost of buying and installing 2 units as opposed to the inefficiencies of a combo, the combo is a much better value.

I also do not want an outdoor unit. I refuse to pay that kind of money for a unit that I still have to cut wood for, and even worse, go outside to feed it. I know many people that have them and they all admit, when pressed, that they are wood hogs. I also require dual fuel. The only vacation time I can get away from my shop is in the winter. I need to have oil or propane for when I go away.

I am going to take my sweet old time looking as I don't have to be operational until late September of this year.

The combo fuel unit for a boiler system may well nigh be impossible due to the firing characteristics of the different fuels. Trying to combine the two sounds like a "Boom" to me when running on wood.

Hot air systems no problem.:D

Google search AHS wood boilers.

Ive heard the Tarms are very expensive but I like the large insulated storage tank. Easy to tie in with hydronic solar panels.

I would absolutely go with in floor heating but not the tubing under subfloor.
Wood does not have the mass to radiate heat that effectively.
