I normally burn about 5 tons, with last years winter being longer and colder than the last few I burned about 6 1/2 tons. I like to buy mine in one shot at Home Depot and finance it for 12 months :) Only downside is they don't get them till October or so and you don't know what the price is going to be until they get them in. Last year I paid $220/ton with $60 for delivery.

Good day to all,

In a local flyer (Halifax, Nova Scotia), pellets were at 5.50$ the 40 lbs bag. I used to have a pellet stove in my previous house and in 2000 we used to pay 2.25$ the bag and you had a 0.25$ mail in rebate coming with this. I used to burn 3 tons a year.

I am using wood right now and pretty happy about it since it is coming from my property. Maybe in a few year I might reconsider the pellet stove.

Coal would be an other option for latter.

Last year was our first year with a pellet stove, a Harman XXV, and we tried pellets from several different manufacturers (Dry Creek, Insta-Heat, New England, etc.). Paid from $225 to $245 a ton and they all performed about the same.

This year we just bought our coming winter's supply of 4 tons at $199 a ton (Insta-Heat).

I ordered a Harman XXV , going to move my existing pellet stove to the basement.
in MD TSC had pellets for $239 ton, recently I got a TSC add that said I could preorder a little cheaper than that.
An ACE hardware near me had them at $209 a ton a couple months ago.
