Afternoon Eddie,
Just one added note, a properly sharpened plane will leave a finish that really needs no sanding at all or a very minimal buff. I have a set of waterstones that I use, with a water bottle close by.
Where you may run into difficulty is when dealing with highly figured hardwoods where the grain runs in multiple directions. Then I go for a scraper, with a fresh burr.
