Wood Splitter advice

I'd be more interested in the Super Split if it came with a log lift, and if the wedge was on the movable portion and the log stayed in place. It just seems like you have to lift every single round quite a bit high in the air up to the splitter, and then handle every single piece of wood again if you want to re-split. I think this would be fine for most people but I like to split my wood fairly small, so I re-split almost all the time. Also, how on earth do they NOT offer a 4 way option? Then I might be persuaded, but for now, I honestly just can't see how you can beat a Split-Fire splitter. But then again, they're what....double the cost??? I'm sure that's the reason you don't see a lot of them.

I burn about 2 cords a year, and my parents burn another 2 chords. I learned a long time ago that if you are going to have a small engine, it has to be a Honda. Nothing else matters, get something with an engine that starts easily every time, year after year. My splitter is a Troybuilt that I bought from Lowes with the Honda engine. I think that most of them in the same price range are close enough to not matter except for the engine.

I have the same splitter with the Honda. I have had several mowers with Hondas - always start 'first pull'. Nodt that splitter. Takes at least two pulls and the rewind spring does not have enough tension. On a warm day it will rewind, on cool or cold days I have to use a screwdriver to rewind it. I should take the starer apart and add another wrap but my experience has usually wound up with the coil spring all over the shop.
