Hi,
This may be a dumb question but here goes... I have a Yanmar 1500d with a koyker loader and am considering getting a 3 pt log splitter. does that hook up to the hyd. lines that run the loader? and does this size tractor have enough pressure to work these things?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Gary

From my understanding you can get them both ways. The ones that use the tractors hydros will be less expendsive but usually not have as much umph. I have been looking very hard at these and determined based on the way they mount and talking with several other owners of the 3ph models I am just going to keep renting the pull behind one. The question of if your tractor has enough, needs to be answered by the gpm of flow from the tractor and the reqmt of the splitter unit. Takes a pretty good flow to use a good sized splitter. Hope that helps.

Hope fully JJ will see your post and jump in.
First off you need a set of rear remotes ( Hyd. plug in fittings).
Tractor pressure should be high enough, flow may be a little low.
Some 3PT splitters have a pump that runs off the PTO. Costs a little more but may be your best option.

The other thing to consider is engine time used to run a log splitter.

What is the flow and pressure rating on your tractor.

The hyd pump determines the potential hyd pressure. Log splitters run into the 2500 to 3000 psi range for the force.

The cycle time will be based on the GPM's that the pump is putting out. If you know certain things, you can figured out the applied force to the log in tons, and the cycle time to complete one cycle.

Yes, you could plug the log splitter into say the curl hoses using QD's. You would have to hold or secure the lever with bungee to operate the valve so fluid will flow to the log splitter valve.

You could install a PTO hyd pump if your tractor has the HP to run it.

Thanks for the replies!
I think the HP is 18. I guess I can find out the flow.
Thanks again, Gary
