The engineer I talked with at Prince said you might have trouble getting the reliefs set if you mess with them.

Did your valve instructions say anything about adjusting the detent and main relief?

If you still can't get more that 500 psi on the full extend stroke, then a new valve is in order.

J-J

Had a short time to work on the splitter yesterday. (I thought if I retired I would not have any more dead lines to meet:) Removed hoses from log lift side of valve and replaced them with hoses from the main cylinder. Levered in and out and seems to work perfectly in both directions. Been cold around here and oil was a little thick but the gauge read 1500 psi at either end of the piston stroke. Fairly fast up to 1200 psi and then slower build up to 1500 psi. Did not have time to try and raise the main relief psi. So with the detent spool plumbed to the cylinder I can still only get 5-600 psi on extend, but with the log lift spool plumbed to the cylinder I can get 1500 psi in either direction.

I did not receive any valve instructions about adjusting detent or main relief when I purchased the splitter.

Thanks

JJ, I dont understand Prince saying it could cause trouble setting if you mess with the reliefs. I mean, you have to adjust the reliefs for your application and it isnt that hard to do. Easy to get out of wack if you just screw the reliefs willy nilly. I usually set the main pressure first. Check current pressure setting and screw in to increase, out to decrease. To set detent, I usually dont mess with a gauge, I screw the detent relief in just enough to make the cyl retract all the way without stopping before it gets fully retracted.

Is this your valve? The part number you posted seems to be missing an "a". Prince RD522CCEA5A4B1 Directional Control Valve, Monoblock, Cast Iron, 2 Spool, 4 Ways, 3 Positions, Tandem, Pressure Release Detent 1 Position Detent, Spool "Out" Only, Spring Center, Spring Center, Lever Handle, 3000 psi, 25 gpm, In/Out: 3/4" NPT Fe
The listing has a drawing with ports labeled. You can also click to get a pdf file of the drawing so you can open it in Acrobat and zoom in.

This sounds dumb but make sure the inlet port is connected to the pump and the outlet port is connected to the tank.

If the detent is set to low, the lever will not stay in detent.

If the detent is set to high, the lever will stay in detent and not return to neutral.

I would recommend using a gage and set the detent relief to factory specs.

In return mide, you might only see 600 to 800 psi from the pumps high speed, low pressure mode.

If you continue to hold the lever in full return, you should see main relief pressure.

Make sure you have the hoses correct.

A port connects to the base end of cyl

B port connects to rod end of cyl.

Detent is on the return stroke. Spool out.

How you mount the valve is up to you. Push or pull.

The log lift spool is just another spring to center spool. If it is to fast, just add a restrictor washer.

If this valve is the last or only valve, you don't need the PB adapter.

As far as tank port, you could use the tank port with a plug in the PB port or plug the tank port and use the PB port with out adapter.

Brad - Those numbers match the numbers stamped on my valve. And don't worry about sounding dumb, I would guess I am years ahead of you on that one:)

Just want to thank everyone for there help. New valve is on order.

Your pump is rated at 3000 psi.

Your valve comes preset to 2000 psi.

So, if you have a hyd gage, reset your valve relief to about 2950 psi for more force.

4 in cyl
2 in shaft

Push Force 37,031 lbs
Pull Force 27,802 lbs
