wood storage

I chainsaw my pallets in half across the 4x4s then line them between two trees about 10' apart. Have them all over the place. just have to keep track of which is the oldest and split that next. If you are going big those canvas car shelters are great over some pallets as was described. The side panels can be taken on and off as needed. Mine are mostly off for drying.

The wood doesn't stay around long enough to rot. We cut and split 4 cords and we are down to a very little bit.

We burn 4 cords a year. It gets cut tree length - sits all summer, cut to size by August - stacked 4-5' high 2-3-4 rows long on pallets or 2x4's, covered with tarp on top and rainy snow side- sits all winter and summer - and I burn it the following winter, while my new stuff dries. I don't hear the sizzle as it burns anymore- and I get more heat out of it. I like 10x24 size pieces for the stove. I'm burning curly maple now- great heat- but it makes me sick to think of that good stuff heading into the stove!
