I think I figured it out. You have to get a number the Hawk decoys. Not just one or two. The Peckers were setting up shop here for a few weeks. Very irritating. So I doubled down with,, more Hawk scare crows and all round the property. The Peckers all left, and have not been back. $15 dollars a piece for five Hawk decoys seems a reasonable cost, cause I can't just shot them. Anyway the point is, you need more than one or two.

Depending on how big the woodpeckers are ... Cats could probably encourage them to leave ... I had a bunch of barn swallows that thought my porch and deck were great places ... Until I got my cats!

I welcome woodpeckers, they eat all the mud dabber larvae before they hatch out. It is annoying though when they are pecking on an aluminum window frame.

Are they wood peckers or flickers? In my experience, it's flickers that go after buildings.

We have a timberframe home and they are becoming a re-occurring problem on our outside timbers. Trying to evict one at the moment before I resort to the pellet g u n solution.

Uh.....if woodpeckers are pecking on your house you have more problems than the birds. They eat bugs and worms. If they are pecking holes in your timbers they are doing so to get the termites out to eat. They don't make the holes for fun.

I had ONE woodpecker a while ago on the side of the house.

The one hawk decoy is still out there and never have seen that woodpecker again.

I have two pecking birds - in my case. Flickers peck the bugs that burrow into my cedar home. Not enough to keep even one bird alive. See Hayden - post #4.
And the small Downy woodpecker. They peck into the trees I plant and lick the sap that oozes out. I wrap the trunks with an asphalt coated paper and it cures this problem.
