Hi
I had a leaking cylinder on my woods 1006 loader. I got a seal kit and have it right (I think) , but I absolutely can’t get the gland back on the shaft!!
I been trying everything.
Is it supposed to be extremely tight?

All suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

They are a little tight. Do you have pictures of what you are dealing with?

I always use a little hydraulic oil to coat the seals and rod to help it slip on. Once on, it should slide fairly smoothly on the rod. Then use a piece of plastic and a hose clamp to help get the gland back into the cylinder. Kind of a shoe horn type arrangement if that makes sense.

Hi K5
2 pics
Both show the black flange on the gland, protruding roughly 1/16” beyond the gland opening.
Could I have put the wiper gasket in backwards?

Thanks

Pics, I had no instructions and simply put everything new in as I saw it when removing the old one

It looks like it just needs pressed in a little to get it in the grove properly. Then with a good bit of oil on you should be able to drive the rod in. Use a rubber mallet to drive with or a block of wood.

Here is a good video from Tractor Mike that shows using just a regular hammer. It sometimes takes a tap to get it on the rod.

Good morning,
Well I put it on my hydraulic press this morning and forced the gland on.
Probably tore up a seal.

Now, the gland will not budge on the ram. Not will it slide but I can probably tap it up against the piston.
Question:
Does the gland need to slide freely on the ram , or slide somewhat for the correct operation of the unit?

And , should I tap the gland up against the piston? You will notice the gap between gland and piston currently.

Thanks

It definitely should slide smoothly on the ram. Something must not be correct. Are you sure that was the correct seals?

Also normally the piston seal will have backup rings before and after the seal. Maybe this one does not need them?

Well
I’m not 100% sure but according to a few tractor supply web sites, the kit number is correct.

So, does it need to slide correctly to function properly?

I have a Woods loader, #1006

Kit number 56147

Came from Woods through Wengers

Thanks
