I recently purchased a Woods 6500 backhoe that is 2 years old. My local dealers tell me that I can't buy a subframe for that Model???? I have a Kubota (Compact) tractor and when I was talking to them about buying a new backhoe they said a subframe would be no problem... Any web sites or ideas where I might be able to research different makes or models..

Thanks- Sarge

I can't believe that they no longer make a frame for this...

If you haven't tried Wood's website yet click here.

I don't which tractor you have but I am checking into backhoes for my B7500. Yesterday I talked with a salesman at a large dealership. They sell both Kubota's and Woods. He told me that the Woods 6500 and 7500 are the same model they have made since the mid 90's. He said there was a subframe for different tractors. If you have a fairly new tractor you should be able to find a dealer who will sell just the subframe and not want to sell the backhoe and subframe as a complete unit. The dealers in my area will do that.
Good luck
Al

Before a bought my Kubota backhoe I stopped at a dealer near Toledo OH. That made his own sub frame for the Wood 65 & 7500 backhoes. He made them so that a MMM could be used without removing the sub frame. It didn’t look like there was a lot of work to make a sub frame.

It's a B1700HST. I found a dealer that's working with me to get a subframe. Not the dealer right around the corner from my home!!!!! but it'll work.

I've also thought about making my own but I'm not exactly sure where it would bolt to?? I don't even have a picture of a subframe to see if it's possible.

Thanks-Sarge

I have a B7300 HST and a Woods 6500 backhoe. Mine has a subframe that was built by Woods (came with it) - it was the only way I could get it (and I think the best option for my setup). I'm not that familiar with your tractor but I think it is pretty close to what I've got and I'd expect that you can get a subframe for it - sounds like it'll take some work, though /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. Good luck...

I have a B1700HST with the Woods 6500 on a subframe so I know they make it (or at least used to make it).

I have a 7500 woods on my 1700 Ford. I bought the subframe from a dealer who had it out back in the junk pile, it even had the saddle with it. I paid $150.00 for it, brought it home and and slide it under my tractor. With my luck the saddle which bolts to the bottom of the rear end of the tractor bolted right on and the front saddle got welded onto the cross member of the loader. That's all that holds the subframe on. When I put the backhoe on, I found out that the seats were to close to each other so I took the backhoe off the subframe and extended the channel frame out 10", I butt welded them on, 100% weld, drilled the 4 new hole and put the backhoe back on and I was in bussiness. I can show you some pictures if you'd like.

BBELL-

A picture wood be great!!!! (especially if backhoe is off the tractor) I've even tried to get a diagram from WOODs themselves of what one looks like but they were unable to get one??? I bought a subframe from Kubota but it is more of a frame stiffener. The backhoe still ends up being mounted on the 3PH arms. Not what I'm looking for.

Just wondering if anyone ever took pictures of a Subframe they wouldn't mind showing? I have a B8200 and found a Woods 7500 that I'm considering buying, I am more than comfortable with constructing my own sub-frame, if I knew(could see) how the factory builds them. How bout it? Since my machine is so old, I don't expect that I could find a factory sub-frame even if they did exist at one point!

thanks

Frankc: I just took my Woods 7500 and subframe off of my B7800 to do some 3ph work. Will be glad to take and post some pics w/in the next couple of days.

I can tell you this, having just taken it off; it is made out of VERY solid chanel bars and weighs a pile. The front end pins into a matching mount under the front center of the tractor frame just behind the front wheels. The rear then has an assembly with two slots that slip over the pins for the lower arms of the 3ph. Those pins then tie with two pins on the subframe just behind the slots. A heavy duty toplink then ties the BH itself to the toplink mount.

The whole thing makes for a VERY solid mount attaching the subframe to the tractor frame at 3 points plus the toplink. The subframe channel members look strong enough so that they take all the lifting and twisting forces generated when using the BH. If I understand the physics correctly, both the subframe and the tractor's main frame are both resisting those forces.

I assume that you're comfortable with heavy duty welding. I sure wouldn't want to tackle making one of these unless I was. Even with that, you will need to fabricate the front and rear mounting assemblies with a great deal of precision; they both fit very precisely with their mating assemblies on the tractor, with a minimum of play. So much so that the main skills in removing and mounting the BH and subframe are (1) backing the tractor up to the subframe perfectly centered and in line with its exact direction and (2) learning to use the BH boom and stabilizer hydraulics to line up the rear slots EXACTLY with the pins so that you can then back the tractor 3ph pins into the slots. If you are just a bit off, the pins will not both slide all the way to the rear of the subframe slots and unless they do, you can't lock them with the pins on the subframe.

Hope this doesn't sound too daunting. The subframe actually isn't difficult to mount and remove, once you get the hang of it, but if the subframe assemblies don't exactly mate with the tractor, it ain't gonna work.

Thnks Guys, any pictures surely will help and are much appreciated. Yes, I am very comfortable with the fab/welding end of the job, its more being able to see where the manufacturer(engineers) decided they needed to support the machine at that I'm mostly concerned with. They should have designed their solution based on testing, and as long as I bring my design in-line with their's I should be ok.

All pictures are welcome!

I have a bunch of pics of a woods subframe and woods 6000 backhoe. I installed both myself on my B7510. Not sure if my pics would help you though, tractor is 2006. I can post them if it will help you.
