Thanks Rick, I'll take a look for the wrench. Your right it should be done by dealers when they put them together. I do have some on hand. Thanks

Rick, where would I find the wrench that you are describing? I want to take a look at one. I may just go out and buy a 1" 11/16ths. socket and use my own breaker bar to get the nuts off. Just in case I have trouble getting them off, I may have to purchase th wrench. Thanks

If you already have a 3/4" breaker bar you could just get a 1-11/16th hex impact socket for $15-$20. You won't be using it very often so why pay $60.
I would use a 6 point in any case. A 12 point socket doesn't grip the sides of a nut near as well as a 6 pt.
I would probably replace the lock washers under the nuts if they are flattened at all.

Why don't you have a back castor?
Do you have height retaining chains in the front?

As a bush Hog dealer, I keep one in stock. You could check with your local BH dealer.

That's why I suggested the Bush Hog blade nut wrench is a good option for those that DON'T HAVE NEED FOR THE REST OF A 3/4 DRIVE SET but might have a pipe wrench.

This wrench is an OPTION, not a necessity.

The factory does not put never-seize on those blade bolts. Not Woods, not Bush Hog, not LandPride, nor do they claim to. It should be manditory, and every rotary cutter owner should have some available. Bush Hog makes a blade bolt wrench that fits blade nuts of all 3 mentioned brands where 1-11/16" nuts are used. The blade wrench and a large pipe wrench and maybe a cheater pipe will do a fine job on those blade bolts. Much less cost than if you have no need for the rest of a 3/4 drive set and already have a pipe wrench 18" or 24" long. Bush Hog part #6432BH should run about $60.

I have a BB60 and agree - never-seize should be mandatory on those nuts. I used a Harbor Freight 3/4 Drive ratchet with the approximat mm socket and a 4ft pipe cheater bar. Used a 2x4 to block the beam the blades are pinned to to keep it from rotating. really had to lean into that pipe to free both nuts the first time I took them off. After applying anti-seize they come off a lot easier - still need some grunt, but not thread galling grunt.

I wonder why Woods uses such a customer unfriendly blade attachment on that model?

I have an old 72" Woods that I purchased in the mid 80's and it has a 1/2" Nyloc bolt and simple collar locks. See attached diagram.
I also have a mid 90's Woods 3 spindle finish mower that has a very similar locking collar for each of the 6 blades.

I suppose the nut on top way saves them a little versus the old way.....

This is what I have on my 1996 Dixie Cutter MD160 -- except the nut is 3/4" (maybe because I have a stump jumper versus a cross bar).

Thanks guys for all the input. Pacerron, what is a back castor? I've never heard of one. Also I do not have height retaining chains on the front. I'll probably get a socket and spray the s### out of it and put some muscle into it to break them free. Then I will lather them with never-sieze.
