It's hit or miss. Too much variation in vegetation.
In thick grass, it works very well. Mowing jobs 2-3 time a year....phenomenal results.
Tall stemmy stuff, like golden rod, ragweed, Queen Anne lace, and even taller foxtail, the mower lacks.
I'm talking fields that have been far fields and sprayed for years....then sold off in building lots, nothing thick, no grasses, just tall stalky weeds. Infid no matter how slow you yo, it looks like crap. Stragglers sticking back up everywhere. I can turn around and watch them pop up after they come.out from under the mower deck.
Several reasons. First, the deck is short being a twin spindle. So when mowing over a 5-6' tall weed...the front edge of the cutter lays the weed down. And by the time the top of the weed clears the front lip on the cutter, the base of the weed plus a few feet are already out from under the deck and don't get cut.
For now, on jobs like that, where mowing at a snail's pace doesn't yield better results, I just mow fast and mow twice.
I think these newer cutters with smooth top decks, and putting the bracing underneath (especially the front lip) makes it worse. And the further the blades are from the front lip the worse it is. On an 8' twin, that's the edges as well as right in the middle
I thin the only fix for that is a large single spindle....and a 3ph cutter that has the front shaped like a skid loader cutter, where the top is cut out and elevated where the weeds enter....that would be a good cutter.
But every job/field is different.
Knee hight and thick lush grass....this mod works very well.
