Marietta was NOT the first orginized settlement, it was the first ORGANIZED settlement in the Northwest Territory...
<font color="red"> Marietta, Ohio, is the oldest permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory. Known as the "Riverboat Town," it is located at the confluence of the Muskingum and Ohio rivers. The original 47 pioneers of the Ohio Company arrived in Marietta from New England by flatboat on April 7, 1788.
Under the Ordinance of 1787, they established Marietta as the seat of government for the Northwest Territory. That territory included Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and a portion of Minnesota.
