I recently acquired a woods rm59 rear mower and wondering about the use of or need to use check chains. I am able to reliably control height with hydraulics.

Anyone have experience with this attachment and willing to share regarding setup ?

I prefer using check chains on equipment when I can, it assures the implement remains at the set height I want and, not that it makes any difference, it takes the weight off the hydraulic system. Plus I have older tractors that the hydraulics tend to leak off just a little.

thanks. Do you use 2 separate chain or 1 continuous?

You always want to allow for some side to side movement when using a rear mount shredder. Reason being is the tail wheel must be able to move side to side without being hindered. On my units, they have no 'check chains at all but rather telescoping bars with slotted adjusters.

I've got an M5, and have seen them set up different ways. Does yours have an adjustable tail wheel?

Not sure what check chains you have. I've seen M5s with chains to the back for leveling, little short chains around the perimeter to catch debris, and of course some 3pts use chains to check the side sway.

I think that the OP is referring to a chain to maintain the height of the implement, not stabilizers to control side to side movement.

The RM59 is a finish mower and came with brackets that hook to tractor at the upper top link. The chains look like a V when hooked to the mower, if you look there should be a spot to hook the chains on the mower. As long as your 3pt stays in place you can run it that way.

Those chains are a substitute for four gauge wheels (it only has 2 rear wheels)

So, use two,, they are cheap,,
and I think they work better than the front gauge wheels.

The nice thing about the limit chains is they also limit side-to-side movement when 3pt is down by triangulating the lift arms. Cheap and easy to use.
