Once the first side is cut, you have to re-assemble the blank. I had been taping the top and bottom "plugs" back in, but I found that it's not really necessary.

Cut side 2.

Nice job, I made and gave away tons of those deer years ago when I was much younger, I still have a few around.

I still have my patterns, and have thought about making a few, but there's just so many other projects ahead of it to get done first.

My Mom has gotten a bad diagnosis recently. We have been trying to help create as many good memories as possible, for her and for our family. We built some wooden tulips before Easter and had a painting party and cooked a big breakfast with close family, it was a really good time.

This time it's going to be crazy birdhouses. Man are they crazy! My wife painted the first one as an example. We are building 9 more. 3 are roosters like the painted one, 3 are blue jays, and 3 cardinals. There is a TON of labor in these things and we have only completed one and parts for 9 more.

This is one of them. The rest were from the same place.

Getting closer. I think I have around 35 cut. I'm sanding this evening. There are 3 distinct woods and I don't really know what they are other than the red oak. One of them is pretty dark and the grain is very tight almost how cherry grain is. The other is very light with super defined and porus grain

Are you using a ban saw for all of your cuts? Do you have any pictures of it? I'm curious how you get all those small cuts, but also the deeper cutting on the bench in the sleigh?

Turns out I don't really have many pictures of the saw. It has a 6-1/2" high capacity with height adjustable guides. Everything was cut on the bandsaw for the sleigh except for the inside cuts on the runners, those were made on a scroll saw. I glued up and cut the interior of the sleigh - the lighter color wood (pine because I had a leftover chunk already glued up from a past project). Then I glued oversized planks on both sides (red oak), and cut the outside all at once so it would all line up. The runners were cut as 1 thick piece then ripped into 2 equal width pieces with big tabs on the top where they attach to the sleigh. I had to do some figuring on how to connect them. I ended up cutting mortices by hand with a chisel on the bottom of the sleigh and cutting the tabs into reasonable size tenons.
