Bird; your Kenmore washer will probably outlive you. Mine has been going strong for the past 20 years. I better touch wood on that statement.

I also had the same situation as Bird. Took the pump/motor to sears service center to see if they could tell me how to get it apart only to find out they didn't sell the separate parts but the whole thing as a unit. I don't remember the cost but didn't buy it. We hand washed for a while.

You CAN repair some things, but the cost of parts is obscene. I had a 4 year old Yard Machines 2-cycle weed trimmer....one of the tabs on the flywheel that engages the pull starter cracked and broke off. A new flywheel costs $48 plus shipping...and I could buy the whole d**n trimmer for $65 new. Why bother to repair it? Throw away society....yes.....and it is really screwed up.

Buy a Stihl. It will outlive you.

We live in a throw away society... the skill of repair is a fading art.

Partly due to the skill of designing a repairable product is a fading art.

Part of my job is maintaining medical equipment...

We have a few Manual Operating room tables from the dark ages... these table will last a 1000 years... all wear points are adjustable and the mechanisms to move/adjust are built like car transmissions... really bullet proof.

Newer tables don't age well... hard to find parts and manufacturers are quick to discontinue support...

I have 150k worth of American made tables bought new between 1995-98 than are essentially worthless...

Thank goodness I did not allow Admin to send all the old manual tables to Mexico...

By the way... the better modern newer tables are Japanese made and hold there value because they are dependable and serviceable.
