Work Related Injury/Workers Comp?

I look at that ladder and I know it would kill my feet. I am susceptible to gout. Even though I take gout meds (interesting enough, the side effects of gout med is... GOUT) i have flares a few times a month. Most outbreaks are kinda light, others make me recliner or bed ridden.

Hope you can heal up quickly and fully.
I am susceptible to gout myself. No prescription meds but do take tart cherry capsules. Can go up to one year without flareups and long as I watch what I eat and take my tart cherry supplements

I had a coworker who injured his back while lifting heavy equipment. The whole process of workers' comp was a nightmare—delays, paperwork, and confusion. It took forever to get the benefits, and he still deals with pain today. It really opened my eyes to how challenging the system can be. And I don't know how many times I contacted guardian fall protection customer service for ordering protection gear and advice. Maybe I'm too cautious, but it's hard not to be when you understand the consequences.

Next week I have my first Doctor visit… roughly 5 weeks in.

So far nurse practitioners and x-ray only.

Fortunate it’s a little better each day and I was in total off 11 hours on PTO as work said I’m needed and willing to accommodate.

Biggest surprise for me is the number of individuals involved outside my workplace… with copies of everything to regional.

Apparantly California Law is first 3 days are on the employee before wage compensation kicks in.

You are right about paperwork as just from what I can see on my side… division VP, regional, admin, employee health, etc are all involved…

Me not being at work today resulted in the hospital administrator’s very rare vacation starting today being cancelled and co-workers getting called last night to report early… etc… the ripple affect.

I’ve got the max accrued for PTO of 420 hours so not really a hit but I agree… if I was told take a few days off the process would have been likely the same without all the added involvement/expense of so many others… maybe not working so many back to back with deadlines factored too?

I did report it the morning it happened but said I’m sure I will feel better after a good night’s rest and and I did but by mid morning it was starting to flare up…

It was seeing me using crutches yesterday that changed everything.

I know back injuries are very tricky… thankfully with time many do well. Hand injuries we see a lot of as patients and limited dexterity affects many things.

The more I learn the more I realize how little I know…
I've suffered from Plantar Faciitus for several years.

It started as work related but I never filed a claim.

Every day when I got home, I shuffled around for a bit until my feet loosened up.

It took a while, but on my doctors recommendation I purchased some Brooks sneakers.

They are designed by orthopedist and they sure helped.

My issue at work is the darn work boots.

I'm in them for 12hrs a day. That also took me a long time to find the right pair of work boots.

Since then, flare ups have been minimal.

I make sure and stretch the arches of my feet each morning and night. This hurt like the dickens at first. But it's sure helped me in the long run.

I was injured at work. Had my thumb caught in a chain and and it wiped out the tendon in the knuckle.

Work covered it 100%.

Didn't lose any time from work.

Workmans comp set me up an appointment with ortho. Ortho doc recommended a treatment. After treatment was completed, I was listed as having a 1% disability in my hand and got a lump sum payout for the disability from WC.

I was on limited duty for about 6 weeks, then after that I went back out on the road in the service truck.

I jambed my thumb once opening the tailgate on a dump truck, which caused blood to build up under the nail. I went to the Dr where they heated a paper clip on a bunson burner and melted a hole in the nail, releasing the pressure. They also gave me a tetanus shot. The next day my shoulder bothered me more than my thumb.
I was getting paperwork on it for 6 months afterwards, but after that I knew what to do so never went to another doctor for such a minor injury.
I had a finger slammed in a metal storm door as a kid causing blood to pool under the nail like yours.

About midnight I woke my dad up because every heart beat felt like the finger was getting slammed in the door again

Tad took pair of needle nose pliers and heated up a sowing needle to poke through the nail to relieve the pressure.

There was so much pressure under the nail that when he pulled out the needle, blood squirted up him, onto the ceiling and hit the curtains behind me

Know wonder the bloody thing hurt do bad

See this a lot with opioid pain meds… drug test to verify in your system…

A few years ago I was doing an irrigation repair in the parking lot and 3 individuals were excited they both got pain script and left in the same car… it was odd how they carried on.

Happen to see the doc in the cafeteria and mention what I saw… he was very interested because no clue they arrived together because they did not acknowledge each other in the waiting room… turned out they were scammers.
Now you need pre-approval for an opioid prescription or insurance won't cover it.

We found this out last month when my wife had her elbow put back together.

They gave her a nerve blocker after surgery, and the doc wanted her on an opioid while the blocker was wearing off.

I got a notice after surgery that her prescriptions were sent in but they were waiting for pre-approval to fill the opioid.

FYI, pre-approval takes 3 buisiness days.

So while she was in the recovery room, I was fighting with the pharmacy to get her prescriptions filled in a timely fashion so I could grab her prescriptions on the way home.

I had to pay full price for the prescription. And then raised he## with our HR department for signing us up for that useless prescription drug plan.

Back in 1990 I was working on a landscaping job tamping sod along a curb all day. After constantly bouncing the tower against the edge of the asphalt curbing all day I ended up with what I assumed was tendonitis. Rather than getting it looked at I showed up for work the next day, told the owner what I had done and was put on light duty; basically, anything I could do one handed. All morning I took snide comments from the rest of the crew so after lunch picked up a shovel and started to work. I drove it into the dirt pile once, dropped it and realized how stupid I was. 35 years of swinging an axe hasn't helped it any so I have learned to use it one handed. That also is one reason I now have a wood splitter.
I worked for a fence company for a couple years.

Tamping posts is a similar motion. I started losing feeling in my hands. Was diagnosed with pinched nerves in my shoulders.

Workman's comp sent me to a physical therapist who gave me exercises and stretches to do to correct it.

I basically was building up my peck muscles without building up my back muscles so it was pulling my shoulders forward.

I get lazy on doing those exercises 30 years later, but if my finger tips start going numb, I pull out the old tension band and start doing the exercises and stretches again.
