1965 Lincoln IdealArc 250 300amp AC only stick welder when I brought her home for $150.

Before this weekend:

After some cleaning, a bit of paint, new screws, and a 10ga new power cord. (A bit of glare at the bottom in the pictures - sorry) I Still have lots to do/clean/paint but she will come around. BTW - it welds perfectly as well!

Also rebuilt a free old skool 9" Bosch grinder. Complete cleanout, regrease, and new handle and power plug. Now just need a safety guard for it!

Hard to beat them old Lincolns!!

A neighbor asked me if I wanted a couple of "old welders" because he needed the room. Got this one so far...love before and after pictures. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not bad for the cost of some paint and a couple of spark plugs!!

What paint did you use. I picked Ford Red in the high heat variety. Seems to be a pretty good match for the lincoln pain. You welder looks great. I am looking for a Hi Freq uint for mine now. It never ends.

Slick job, Mike. Looks "mint" now, (except for the wheels /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

I will see what I can do about the wheels - don't want red stripes all over the garage. Maybe I will just polish them on the wheel contact surface and paint the hub sides.

Just a word of caution...
I have a Miller 330 A B/P and my instruction manual issues these specific warnings:

"Using high frequency with a stick electrode can result in serious personal injury."
"Place the high-frequency switch in the OFF position before performing Shielded Metal Arc Welding."
"The attempted use of high frequency to establish and arc with a stick electrode could cause and arc to form between the electrode holder and the operator."

Long live the old Lincolns. Mine is from a dead guy in Idaho. Just cost me the fuel to go and get it which ain't chump change but much better than new. Not a lot of moving parts to go wrong. I only added a 25 foot or so power cord to the unit of much better quality than the original. I use my coleman generator for power when remote welding. I sure wish the actual working low voltage lines were easily replaceable as in the idealarc. The OEMs are very short.

My original IdealArc 250 instruction manual tells me how to thaw a frozen pipe with this welder. Funny how things/safety changes over teh years. Actually there is a high freq unit that was made to be powered by this welder. That is the one I am looking for.

Here is an early pic of my old Lincoln SA200. It belonged to my dad who was a steamfitter. After he passed away I dragged home from WI to NC. It hadn't been run in more than 25 years and it wasn't welding the last time it ran. I cleaned up the magneto points, new spark plug & wires, rebuilt the carb, unstuck some valves, and got the Continental side-valve running. Then I cleaned the literal mouse nest out of the main commutator area, disassembeled and cleaned up the rusted solid brush mounts, and cleaned up the commutators. (main & exciter) Now it welds like a champ! I still need to get it lookin pretty but I did clean the rust up and sprayed on some grey primer. Sorry, no after pic yet.
