Recomend for her to go to the local County Ag Extension office. This is usually an extension of the University too. They will be able to recomend a solution for her. They should be able to recomend what chemicals for her to use, and how much. They can probably recomend how to rip it and compost it if chemicals are out of the question. And, thier recomendations remove liability from you(unless you try to apply the chemicals).

I know poison oak has runners. If you do not kill it with chemicals, you have to get the root/runner pulled out to stop it.

I will certainly discuss it with her as early as tomorrow. Maybe she hasn't been using the right thing. I'll try to find out. On the other hand, I've got to be very careful... as several folks here have pointed out... about recommending a particular chemical treatment. I have no credentials or actual experience in this area and no way my business insurance covers that kind of risk.

This is just plain nasty stuff... and yes, no way I can take on the liability relaing to those chemicals. My insurance company would trash me.

Called her this morning and left a message for her to let me know her past spraying history and any future spraying plans. We'll just have to see what she says.

Well, the poison ivy property owner called back. She told me they've tried many different products at different times... most recently (last year): "Ortho Brush-B-Gone"

It apparently didn't work... or at least not well enough to stop it from coming back this year.

She has no current plans to spray again before or after my work.

There must be something wrong with the application or conditions.

I've eliminated about 90% of the stuff on 17 acres. What's left is too remote for me to bother with.

It is very tenacious and one treatment NEVER works. I believe my success is attributed to 3 sprayings each spring over 3 years. I also make sure that I hit it early in the morning on a clear and sunny day with temps in the 70's to mid 80's and no rain in the forecast.

I used Brush Be Gone, mixed to the recommended strength and added a few drops of surfactant per gallon of mix.

One application applied hit or miss without regards to the time of year and weather is certain to fail.

If the soil is moist, your efforts to till may only help the Ivy to propagate.

If you think you can mitigate the risk of exposure and the customer insists, then so be it. I would not want to make any guarantees other than you are being paid to till "X" number of square feet times your hourly rate.
