Probably be way past our lifetimes before high speed rail becomes commonplace here. Guess for now, we have to be content with speeds under 125 mph and most times way under that. I think FEC runs a high speed consist in Florida but I could be wrong. FEC is an interesting railroad in itself.

Cool! I don't know why this stuff fascinates me so much, but I enjoy the poking around looking for details. You can come across so many interesting tidbits of history.

You have a lot more capability than me at it!
I enjoy going through my local archives and seeing pictures of the men who built our railroads 125 years ago. Get a kick seeing how switch tracks went into buildings that are today, used for completely different purposes.
I have a museum in my town that was a flour mill and a lumber yard. There was a rail siding that ran inside the mill. The switch track is still there, but pretty well buried in parking lot gravel.

Would have been very happy perusing a career working for the local railroad. I would have greatly enjoyed making ‘em run the rails.
